Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning and the South Carolina Curriculum Standards (March 2001) These documents were prepared by a group of South Carolina library media specialists to assist classroom teachers and library media specialists in integrating information literacy skills into the state's standards-driven curriculum. Standards for each of the four core curricular areas (English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) are aligned with the national Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning. These alignments are presented in two ways. In the first set of documents, the curriculum standards for each area are listed in the first column with information literacy standards that align with those standards in the second column. In the second set of documents, the information literacy standards are listed in the left column and numbers for the curriculum standards that align with each of them are listed in the right hand column. If you have comments or questions about the alignment project or if you have specific suggestions for additions or revisions to any of the documents, please email Donna Shannon at dshannon@gwm.sc.edu or contact one of the project contributors. Please note: Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view and print these documents. Click here to download if you do not already have it installed on your computer. The complete set of South Carolina Curriculum Standards is available at the South Carolina Department of Education web site. The Information Literacy Standards for Students Learning, indicators, and connections to national content area standards are part of Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning (1998). This publication is availible from the American Library Association. Click here for a list of the nine Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning. |
