I joined the faculty of the College of Library and Information Science in the fall of 1996. Before coming to South Carolina, I was a member of the faculty of the School of Library of Information and Library Science at the University of Kentucky. My experience includes several years as a secondary school library media specialist in Florida and as an elementary school library media specialist for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Wiesbaden, Germany. I have also worked as a public librarian and as a research assistant for the Florida House of Representatives. My doctorate is from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the MLS from the University of South Florida, and my undergraduate degree (in history and political science) is from the University of Florida. Professional affiliations include the American Library Association, the American Association of School Librarians, Reference & User Services Association, the Association for Library Services to Children, the Association of Library and Information Science Education, the South Carolina Association of School Librarians, and several education organizations. I am currently a member of the AASL Research and Statistics Committee and the editorial board for School Library Media Research. Current research interests include education for prospective school library media specialists and the role of the school library media specialist in reading and literacy initiatives. Recent publications include articles in School Library Media Research, the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science, and Knowledge Quest. I teach the basic reference course and courses related to materials and services to children and youth, and school library media programs.
