Telementoring can be a convenient way for students to learn about special libraries and for special librarians to share their experiences with students. Listed below are librarians in the South Carolina chapter of the Special Libraries Association who have volunteered to be a telementor to students from Davis College at the University of South Carolina
How does the program work?
If you want to be a mentor, sign up here. If you want to be a mentee, pick one of the mentors and send them an e-mail. Mentors and mentees message each other to discuss current issues in special libraries and special libraries in general. The mentor might give the mentee some advice on classes or a special library career. At some point during the term, the student may visit the library of his or her mentor. Since the mentoring is done via e-mail, students and professionals throughout the state as well as those USC-CLIS students in other states can participate. It is a great opportunity for networking. This program was inspired by the telementoring program developed by Mary Logan for school librarians.
