With objectives in keeping with those of the parent Association, the specific mission of the South Carolina Chapter is to provide an association that offers professional enhancement opportunities in the field of knowledge management to special librarians and information professionals in the South Carolina geographic area.

Leadership
A seven-member Executive Board elected annually by the membership leads the SC Chapter. It consists of the following officers: President, President-Elect, Past-President, Treasurer, Secretary and two Directors.
Opportunites
The success of the group depends upon member involvement and opportunities abound within the Chapter. Areas of activity for volunteers include:
- Affirmative Action: Promotes special librarianship opportunities among minority students
- Archives: Maintains the Chapter archives
- Awards: Coordinates the annual Chapter awards program
- Bulletin: Edits and publishes the Chapter newsletter
- Business: Helps raise revenue for chapter activities via Chapter newsletter advertising sales and meeting sponsorships
- Career Guidance/Employment: Provides job listings and job search tips
- Consultation: Coordinates library and information center consultations on request from individuals and institutions
- Government Relations: Tracks government activities and legislation at the national and state levels
- International Relations: Promotes networking with information professionals in other countries
- Membership: Promotes the Chapter by contacting prospects and welcoming new members
- Networking: Promotes activities with other library groups in Georgia, North Carolina, and within South Carolina
- Professional Development: Plans continuing education programs for the Chapter and communicates professional development opportunities
- Programs: Chaired by the President-Elect, plans and coordinates Chapter meetings, usually four per year, held throughout the state.
- Public Relations: Publicizes Chapter activities in professional publications and the state news media
- Special Projects: Coordinates special projects such as Chapter publications
- Strategic Planning: Prepares or revises the Chapter's strategic plan
- Student Liaison: Strengthens Chapter relations with student groups
