If applying for Scholarships and Graduate Assistanships, the Fall and Summer Date is
March15.
Applicants must be admitted to be eligible for financial awards. Financial awards are made in the spring for the next academic year.
Following is a list of the application materials that must be submitted to be considered for admission as a degree candidate. The links you will need to access these items are provided.
To print most of the forms listed below, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader which is free. Download the reader and click on the downloaded file to install.
Graduate School Application and Fee
The application must be completed and submitted electronically to the Graduate School. The application fee is $50 and must accompany the electronic application. SLIS requires a Supplemental Application which is located within the Graduate School’s application and includes the requirement for a personal statement and rèsumè. Note that the rèsumè must be submitted separately. You may submit your rèsumè by fax to 803-777-0457; mail to School of Library and Information Service, Student Services Office, 1501 Greene Street, Room 102, Columbia, SC 29208; or e-mail to slisss@mailbox.sc.edu.
Two Letters of Recommendation
Applicants must ask their recommenders to access the Letter of Recommendation form from the Graduate School’s website (http://gradschool.sc.edu/DocLibrary/documents/G-LOR.letter.of.recommendation.pdf). Instructions on how to submit the form are included on the form.
Transcript(s)
Applicants must have official transcripts sent from their institutions directly to the Graduate School. Applicants must submit a transcript for every college or university they have attended even if the courses are recorded on another transcript.
The applicant’s bachelor’s degree must be posted on the transcript from the college or university where the bachelor’s degree was earned. The bachelor’s degree must have been earned from a nationally accredited college or university where the accrediting body is recognized by the United States Department of Education. The minimum grade point average requirement is 3.0 on a 4.0 grade scale.
Official Standardized Test Scores
SLIS requires official standardized test scores from either Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The official score reports must be submitted directly from the testing service to the Graduate School.
GRE Information
SLIS' minimum requirement for the GRE is 950 including a minimum score of 500 on the verbal section.

MAT Information
SLIS' minimum requirement for the MAT is 410.

International Applicants
International applicants whose native language is not English must also submit an official score report for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
TOEFL Information

Note
If accepted to SLIS, students will receive a welcome packet which will include important forms such as the Immunization Form and the Residency Form. Those forms must be completed by ALL students and returned in a timely manner. Students will not be able to register until ALL necessary forms are processed by the appropriate department.
