| ADVISEMENT AND PROGRAM PLANNING
Upon admission, students are assigned a faculty advisor, who is named in the admission letter. It is a good idea to contact your advisor as soon as possible to begin planning your program.
During the initial advisement the student and faculty advisor will work together to plan a strong, academically sound program which will help the student meet career objectives. In order to document the intended course of study, a “Master's Degree Program of Study” form should be completed by the end of the first semester as a requirement of SLIS 701:Introduction to Library, Media, and Information Professions.
A Program of Study is an agreement signed by the student and his/her advisor, the Director of the College, and the Dean of the Graduate School listing all courses which must be completed to earn the degree . Certificate and Specialist students must also file programs of study no later than the second semester of enrollment. Joint degree students must submit both programs of study simultaneously.
A change in the program of study requires the submission of a “Request for Adjustment in Graduate Program” form ; the signatures required are the same as those required for the original “Program of Study”. Students may locate the “Program of Study” form and the “Request for Adjustment in Graduate Program” forms on the School of Library and Information Science Forms page. Upon completion of the forms, students may fax (803-777-0457) or mail to the Student Services Office, 102 Davis College , USC, Columbia , SC 29208 .
NOTE: The Graduate School reserves the right to block the student's ability to register if the Program of Study is not on file in that office.
