Wenum wins internship with Smithsonian Gardens

Library and Information Science graduate student Bella Wenum has been selected for a summer internship with the Archives of American Gardens within the Smithsonian Gardens in Washington, D.C. Wenum is the third consecutive School of Library and Information Science student to receive this internship.

In her position, Wenum will process collections and gain archival experience, which she is excited to do. "I work with archival collections [in the Hollings Special Collections room of the Thomas Cooper Library] frequently, but I have never been able to process a collection myself." She also hopes to assist in outreach efforts, especially through social media. Since outreach is important for the livelihood of museums and libraries, Wenum's exposure will leave her more equipped for her future career.

Wenum, a Columbia, S.C. native, decided in part to apply for the internship because it would give her the opportunity to experience a new city. "I've spent my whole life in South Carolina, and though I love it here, I am very excited to spend the summer living in a large metro area that has so many cultural institutions," she said. The 10-week internship will begin June 3.
