Jordan Campbell awarded 2013-2014 SLIS Information Science Scholarship
Information science major, Jordan Campbell is the recipient of the 2013-2014 SLIS Information Science Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in information science with demonstrated academic excellence and justifiable financial need as determined by the BSIS Committee.
Jordan is a sophomore from Mountain Rest, South Carolina. She was on the Dean’s Honor List for the Fall 2012 semester. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society which honors freshmen students for outstanding academic achievement during their first semester at the University of South Carolina.
Jordan says that her ultimate career goal is to become a librarian. “The idea that I may actually be able to fulfill my dream at the University of South Carolina is astounding, and if being a SLIS major brings me closer to working in a library someday, why would I choose to do anything else?” Jordan says that “As a librarian, my motivation for coming to work every single day will be my desire to enlighten children on the power of a book. Being an elementary school librarian and helping youth develop a thirst for reading is my idea of an extraordinarily rewarding career.”
Jordan was inspired by her elementary school librarian. “I want to help kids in the way that she helped me. I want to teach kids that reading opens so many doors and that books hold unlimited magic. I want to teach kids that wisdom stems from knowledge, and knowledge stems from books.” Jordan adds that “Impacting just one child’s life would make my life meaningful.” Finally she says that “I hope to continue my studies in graduate school and obtain my Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science. Afterwards, I will become the kind of librarian that every child should be exposed to.”
