Jeffcoat elected to Humanities Council SC

Kim Shealy Jeffcoat has been elected to a three-year term to the the Humanities Council SC Board of Directors. Kim was elected at a September 2013 meeting in Blythewood and will begin her term on November 1, 2013.Kim Jeffcoat

Jeffcoat is executive director of the South Carolina Center for Children’s Books and Literacy at the University of South Carolina. With degrees in English and Library Science, she is dedicated to literacy, and is involved with numerous statewide outreach programs including the popular “Cocky’s Reading Express™,” and currently is the series editor for “Young Palmetto Books,” SC books focused for young readers and published by USC Press. She is active in community work and is an accomplished fundraiser.

The Humanities Council SC is in its 40th year as the state-based program of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Governed by twenty-two volunteer public and academic members, the Council awards nearly $200,000 annually in grants for statewide public programs and sponsors two annual initiatives—the South Carolina Humanities Festival and the South Carolina Book Festival held in Columbia. The Council was responsible for the publication, The South Carolina Encyclopedia. Board members initiate and develop projects, seek to make the humanities accessible statewide, and take active roles in Council fundraising.
