Gaffney's Library Movement


By the turn of the century women's clubs were actively involved in the promotion and founding of good libraries, such as the Women's Club of Gaffney which, in 1905, undertook the improvement of the public library for its first civic project.

Mrs. L. L. Carpenter was the president of the Women's Club in 1905 when this undertaking began. Pictured below is a picture of Mrs. W. F. Humphries, the very first president of the Gaffney Women's Club.
