1902-03The Literary club was the predecessor of the current Cherokee County Public Library. The Public Library was organized November 7, 1902, and opened April 2, 1903
1942-1971South Carolina legislative actions relating to the Cherokee County Library
1942SC Acts No. 605: Create and establish Cherokee County Public Library; define method of electing members of Board of Trustees; fix their term of office, define their duties and powers and provide for levying of taxes to pay expenses of same.
1942SC Acts No. 690: Repeal Act 21 of 1941- levying 3/4 of one mill on taxable property in school district 10 in Cherokee County to support and maintain Carnegie Free Library.
1956SC Acts No. 896: Make further provision for Cherokee County Public Library.
1961SC Acts No. 384: Authorize Cherokee County Library Board, with approval of county legislative delegation, to enter into contracts and agreements with other county library boards of state and South Carolina State Library Board for benefit and improvement of library service.
1970SC Acts No. 1114: Create Cherokee County Library and repeal sections of Code of Laws of South Carolina relating to Cherokee County Public Library.
1971SC Acts No. 711: Appropriate funds to Cherokee County Library for purchasing property.
1971SC Acts No. 712: Authorize Cherokee County to issue $350,000 of general obligation bonds for library and hospital purposes.
