Syllabus (Literacy Materials & Services for Latino Youth)

 

Jamie Campbell Naidoo received his Ph.D. in Communication and Information Studies from the University of Alabama in 2006, his Masters of Library and Information Studies from the University of Alabama in 2000, and his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1994.

Prior to joining the SLIS faculty at USC, Dr. Naidoo was an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama 's School of Library and Information Studies where he taught courses in materials and services for children and young adults. He has served in both school and public libraries in Alabama as a school library media specialist in an elementary school and as the Coordinator of Juvenile Services in a public library.

Dr. Naidoo's main research interests are in the representation of minority populations in literature and media for children and young adults. He is particularly interested in the use of multicultural and international youth literature to assist in the self-identification processes of minority students. His other research interests include storytelling techniques and practices using children's literature, library services to Latino children, the School Library Media Center's role in assisting underserved student populations, the history and influence of children's media on children's book publishing, bibliotherapy practices and procedures, and the presence of controversial children's literature in the School Library Media Center.
