John N. Olsgaard, Ph.D.

Dr. Olsgaard received his B.A. in History from Jamestown College in 1974. In 1976 he received an M.A. in American History from the University of North Dakota. In 1977 he received his M.L.S. in Library Science from the University of Iowa. From 1977 to 1981 he served as the Documents Librarian and Archivist, Assistant Professor, at the University of South Dakota. In 1984 Dr. Olsgaard received his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

In 1984 he was appointed Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean in the College of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina . From 1985 to 1986 he served as the Interim Dean of the College of Library and Information Science. In June 1989 he was promoted to tenured Associate Professor. In August 1989 he was appointed Associate Provost of the University of South Carolina. Dr. Olsgaard also served as Interim Dean of University Libraries at USC from 2001 to 2002. In 2004, John came home to the School of Library and Information Science.

Dr. Olsgaard's primary research interests are in the areas of: academic library administration, research methodologies in library and information science, and information system design.
