Andy was born and grew up in Fairfax , South Carolina . He graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1988. In 1997 he received his Master of Arts in history from Winthrop University . He was director of the Hampton County Literacy Council for five years and served as the director of the TRIO Student Support Services Program at the USC Salkehatchie regional campus for 10 years. Andy's wife's name is Karen and they currently have a wonderfully, big, furry, black cat, “Porkchop”. that likes to eat.
