First SLIS Ph.D. Colloquium

The first SLIS Colloquium sponsored by the doctoral students and their faculty advisors (Dr. Charles Curran and Dr. Jennifer Arns) will be held on February 22, 2008 at 3:00pm in room 209 of Davis College. The topic will be "Grant Writing and Topic Selection."

The colloquium speakers wil be Dr. Dan Barron, SLIS Distinguished Professor Emeritus and former director of SLIS and current director of the Avery-Mitchell-Yancey Regional Library in North Carolina and Dr. Mary Carla Curran, Associate Professor in the Marine Science Program at Savannah State University. Barron and Curran will talk about the process, the politics and the benefits of grantsmanship. Topics include how grants contribute to the financial support of the person and institution and how grants "inform" one's teaching.

Refreshments will be served at 2:45.
