The College of Library and Information Science (now the School of Library and Information Science) has held its annual Deans' Lecture (now called the Deans' and Directors' Lecture) since 1986. The lectures honor the previous deans and directors of the college and school. The annual lecturer was usually selected by the current dean/director of the college or school. For the first few years of the lectures, the speaker was usually someone with extensive knowledge of and experiences with the libraries of South Carolina. Since these early years, the lecturers have come from a variety of backgrounds in the information professions.
For most of the years that the lectures have been held they were preceded by the induction of new members into the Beta Omega Chapter of Beta Phi Mu, the national honor society in Library and Information Science. Thus, the video presentations may include mention of this event and/or introduction of the new members.
All printed, audio, or video materials associated with each lecture are the property of the School of Library and Information Science and may not be reproduced without the permission of the School. In addition, each lecturer may hold his or her own copyright to the materials.
