Instuctions for Submitting Assignments for students in distance education classes.

Because of the large volume of assignments that are received, it is imperative that you carefully follow the instructions below whether submitting by dropping off, snail mail, or e-mail.

Check your course syllabus, mailing list (listserv) and Blackboard for additional instructions specific to your course assignments submissions.

Failure to do so will result in penalties as determined by the course instructor.

General Information for all J courses
  • Use your official USC registration name (first and last) on everything - your grade record sheet, your cover sheets, your correspondence.
  • Each assignment must be accompanied by appropriate assignment cover sheet regardless of how submitted.
  • USE ONLY THE COVER SHEETS (PDF) PROVIDED VIA BLACKBOARD.
    The only exception is when you e-mail an assignment (see instructions below).
  • DO NOT submit the same assignment in more than one format. 
  • Make sure the assignment you submit is the version you want graded. Assignments will only be accepted ONCE unless a prior arrangement has been made..
  • Number each page of every assignment

SUBMITTING ASSIGNMENTS



DROPPING OFF ASSIGNMENTS
  • If you are  in Columbia handing in an assignment, please put it in Madonna's mailbox or slip it under her office door (Room 113D) before 5:00pm Monday - Friday .
  • Include the appropriate assignment cover sheet and  staple it to your assignment.


SNAIL MAIL (if your instructor accepts snail mail)
  • Assignments are due POSTMARKED (first class) on the dates given unless your instructor gives you other instructions.
  • Each assignment must be stapled to the appropriate assignment cover sheet.
  • Fill out the cover sheet with your current name, address etc. in the space provided.
  • Put the course number (J701, J705, etc.) under your return address on the front of your envelope.
  • Mail to:

    You can mail assignments for different distance courses in the same envelope. Include each course number(s) on the envelope.


SUBMITTING ASSIGNMENTS ON OTHER MEDIA (CD, DVD, ETC.)

  • Label your disk with the following
    • course number
    • your name
    • filename
  • Put your disk in an envelope
  • Staple or clip the cover sheet and assignment to the envelope



E-MAIL
  • Put the course number in the subject line of your e-mail message j704, j701 (no space between j and course number).
  • Include your first and last name in the body of the message.
  • You must submit assignments as attachments. These assignments may be created  in  Microsoft Word or  Microsoft Excel or saved as  Rich Text Format (RTF) files.
  • E-mail assignments by 5pm on the assigment due date
  • Submit the cover sheet as the FIRST page of the attachment for each assignment. (Each assignment is only 1 attachmenta)
  • DO NOT e-mail the assignment and then snail mail the cover sheet.
  • Make sure the attachments are the versions you want graded because the assignments will only be printed ONCE.


      Designing a cover sheet

        Cover sheets must include the following information:

First Name Last Name Course #
Address Assignment title**  
City, State ZIP Grade


For Example

Marian Librarian J701
102 Bookworm Lane Bio Bit 
Cyberspace, SC 29222 Grade

**Assignment title must be the same as the actual assignment title, not assignment 1, etc..

Do not include any other information on the cover sheet.

  • Use these margins: top = 2.3", left = 1.5"
  • Use single space
  • Leave sufficient space so that the second column does NOT appear in the envelope window.
  • A tab set at 4 inches from the left margin should accomplish this.
  • Use Times Roman or Arial fonts
  • Use 10 or 12 point font size

All other  correspondence must be sent to madonna@sc.edu - DO NOT send assignments here.
