going, you probably won't get there,
is true in the field of program design and development. This
workshop focuses on the value of developing an evaluation
strategy during the program design phase and using the strategy
to assess service quality during program implementation. Topics
include setting service objectives using the United
Way planning model, approaches to periodic review and
assessments,
and
the development of constructive recommendations when
improvements are needed.

Preservation Planning for Libraries and
Archives

Planning for the long-term preservation of institutional
collections is a critical aspect of library and archival administration. This
workshop will introduce the core components of a preventive preservation program. Topics
to be covered include: conducting preservation needs assessment surveys;
environmental control of collections; care, storage, and handling of collections;
disaster planning; reformatting; and physical treatment of collections.

an overview of the many legal issues facing today's
librarians and will suggest resources for keeping abreast of developments
in the law. The
workshop will address challenges presented by such issues as patron records
and privacy, Internet access, the demands of e-government, copyright and
licensing, virtual reference, library access, and the unauthorized practice
of law.

media is an exciting new trend and libraries are getting into the act by offering
downloadable audiobooks, music, even feature films, online. This workshop
will provide an introduction to downloadable media, personal listening and
viewing devices, and e-content vendors such as NetLibrary and OverDrive.
