Children with
Reading Disabilities in the Library
Linda
Walling, Professor Emeritus, School of Library and Information Science,
USC
Children with reading disabilities such
as autism, dyslexia and other learning disabilities are often
underserved in libraries because their disabilities are not
recognized. Likewise, children with low vision and children with
hearing impairments are underserved. This workshop will focus on
ways librarians can better serve these children through programming and
collection development. Special attention will be given to
adapting and using materials already in the library collections.
