For a long time I have wanted to go to Alaska to fish, pan for gold, and see a glacier.  Two out of three is not bad, I guess.  On the way to Alaska we spent three days in Seattle visiting with daughter no. 2, Kristina, who is a graphic designer, and daughter no. 1, Allison, came along for the Seattle part.  It was a neat family reunion (sans Jason, the son-in-law, who was off playing Scout in the UK).

I caught this 30 pound+ King Salmon!  But: it was 3 days out of season so it had to be released.
(Based on the price of King Salmon at $12.00 per pound in the Seattle market you can probably
guess that I was not happy to let it go!)
 

We visited with Elspeth Pope (former USC/CLIS faculty member)
at her home on the sound near Seattle, Washington.  Elspeth is doing
very well and still running her printing press.
 

We stayed at Denali National Park (home of Mt. McKinley) a
6 million acre park in the middle of Alaska for a couple of days.
While on a wildlife tour 60 miles back into the park we saw lots of grizzly bears,
caribou, etc.--but no moose!  This shows part of the scenery in the
"multi-colored" mountains near Mt. McKinley.
