  • SEC EDGAR Database- This is the SEC's main page for EDGAR searching. There are two different searchs that are accessible from this page. First there is a Quick Form Lookup that allows for searching by form type for a specific corporation. Finally there is a Search the Edgar Archives search that allows for full-text searching, but only of header information, which includes company name, SIC code, and address.
  • FreeEdgar- FreeEdgar used to be the best free EDGAR search, because it allowed for full text searching of entire documents. Recently this changed, and while Free Edgar does still provide free access to the individual filings, it no longer allows full text searching, rather it directs searchers needing full test searching to use Edgar Online a fee based Database. The Basic Document Search on FreeEdgar allows for searching by company name, ticker symbol, and by SIC code only. FreeEdgar also provides a Location Search that is not available on the SEC's EDGAR searches. The final feature of FreeEdgar that bears noticing is that is has a Today's Filings feature that lists current EDGAR filings.
  • EdgarScan- This is an excellent Edgar product that allows for searching by company name and ticker symbol. The neat thing about EdgarScan is that once it downloads the filings from the SEC it finds key financial tables (from 10-K and 10-Q filings) and inserts links to those tables. It also allows for exportation of those tables into other programs (such as spreadsheets). For most filings it is possible to view the document in HTML format with a hypertextual table of content, and the rich text format that is most suitable for printing. This database is maintained by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
  • Disclosure Investor- This is a database that is searchable by Company name and ticker symbol. It is also able to limit by type of filing and by date of filing. This is the basic search for Disclosure, who also provide a more advanced fee-based search called Global Access.
  • Yahoo- Yahoo also provides access to EDGAR filings. It is searchable only by ticker symbol (but there is a symbol lookup link) and provides only the most recent few filings. For more filings it directs users to Edgar Online Premium Service, a fee based search tool. Yahoo also provides a list of all new EDGAR filings for the current day, and an archive of recent days.
