Finding Grants and Loans for Your Business

Following is a list Internet sites which should be useful in helping you find grants and loans to help finance your business. (Most of these sources are for small businesses, but some include information for nonprofit organizations and larger corporations.)

Grant Resource Centers :

The Small Business Association has a page devoted to finding grants: Business Opportunities - Grantsthat provides a list of links to government sources for grant money. Also, check out the Small Business Association's Small Business Development Centers page. Scroll down the page. It provides links to small business development centers in your state.

The U.S. House of Representatives has a page called Federal Funds Expre$$ that provides groups of links that provide information about how to find and apply for government grants, how to manage the grants process, and so on.

Also, University of Michigan's Documents Center has a page called Federal Government Resources: Grants, Contracts, and Auctions that provides a list of links to government grants.

Idea Cafe Free Small Business Grant Center provides grant information, but you have to join.

Polaris Grants and Services and Bookstore has a page devoted to Grant Seeker's Resources for Small Business Information that provides a well annotated list of links to grant information.

Government Grants has a page devoted to Government Business Grants that will point you to government grants for your business.

Government Grants :

US Government Information Resources has a page called For Small Business Grants Look to the States. Scroll to the bottom for a list of states and information for each state on how to finance your small business.

The Rural Business Enterprise provides information about the Rural Business Enterprise Grants (RBEG) Program to public bodies, private nonprofit corporations, and Federally-recognized Indian Tribal groups to finance and facilitate development of small and emerging private business enterprises located in areas outside the boundary of a city or unincorporated areas of 50,000 or more and its immediately adjacent urbanized or urbanizing area.

The Department of Defense offers a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program, which provides up to $850,000 in early-stage R&D funding directly to small technology companies (or individual entrepreneurs who form a company).

The National Institutes of Health: Grants and Funding Opportunities provides a page specifically on Small Business Funding Opportunities.

The National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases has a web page called NIAID Funding: Grants and Contracts which includes information for small businesses.

The NIH Center for Scientific Review has a page called CSR - Review of Small Business Applications, which provides application forms and instructions.

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research has a page called NIDRR's Grants & Funding. They, too, provide information about Small Business Innovation Research Programs.

The US Business Advisor has a page that discusses Financial Assistance.

Phoenix Financial Services is an investment-banking firm that specializes in arranging debt and equity placements for small to medium size corporations. They provide a lot of helpful information explaining things like types of loans, specialty financing, and the loan process.

WellsFargo has a Resource Center for Small Business Owners.

Amerimerchant has a cash advance program against your future credit card processing sales receipts. They can provide cash immediately.

Milford Federal also provides loans for small businesses.

Business Funding Directories :

Some of these directories are more general than just for finding financial assistance for your small business, but they all include some help for financing.

BusinessFinance.com is America's Business Funding Directory.

D&B Small Business Solutions provides assistance in running your small business, including credit services, marketing services, and supplier searches, just to name a few of its services.

BIZFIN.com Business Finance provides information about financing a business, including sources for capital, small businesses for sale, and rules of finance. They also have a message board so that you can communicate to other entrepreneurs.

Google also provides a directory to support small businesses looking for financial assistance called Business - Small Business - Resources - Financial. It leads business owners to federal sites, banking sites and so on.
