So, you would like to do business in Russia! This country of 145 million people has an improving economy. The government is promoting a new program called E-Russia, which seeks to expand information and communication technology to schools and businesses. Crime and corruption continue to plague this country, however. New entrepreneurs from outside Russia who wish to start new businesses in the country must have a good knowledge base of rules and regulations, both formal and informal. What follows is a list of websites devoted to Russia.


 

1.http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/

This site will provide one with a good background on the political, economic, and social aspects of the country. The CIA World Factbook 2001 also has topics on the geography, government, and communications of Russia.

2. http://therussiasite.org/

The Russia Site. This is another "must see" site. It provides a list of topics to search. Click on the icon and you will be directed to websites that talk about the topic. For example, the politics icon will take you to the directory of political parties. Here is a friendly reminder: many sites will only be in Russian. The main website of the Russian republic is in Russian. Of particular interest is the finance and monetary policy section. You can find out about the IMF and World Bank activities in the country.

This is the home of the Russia Embassy in Washington, DC. You will find information on consulates, trade mission, etc. Scan down to consular information and you can click on Conducting Business Activities in Russia. The first page will provide information on Registration of Documents for Conducting Business in Russia.

This is the website of the US Embassy in Moscow. Great information and links.

Business Basics Go here to find more useful business links. For example, you can find out about the Russian Business Owner's Toolkit. Check out the articles on the left side. The links on the right do not work. Particularly useful is the link with Russia on the Net.

This is the website to the American-Russian Business Council. This site will provide information on US government projects in Russia, embassies and consulates in Russia. Check out the Russian market reports and information. The following topics (Customs Information, Regions of Russia, Trade leads and Market Research) are available for members only. However, anyone can receive information on Business Summary and Business Calendar, etc.

The American Russian Center (ARC) trains entrepreneurs, business managers and government leaders through grants from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other U.S. agencies. ARC promotes the transition of the Russian Far East to democracy and a free market economy. The homepage describes this entity as a "non-commercial foundation" that "performs research…, provides policy advisory services and information support to small and medium business community. The mission is to provide assistance to private entrepreneurship development in the Russian Federation.

Internet.ru is a daily online publication covering Internet and industry-related developments in Russia. Internet.ru offers more than 15 daily editorials, opinion pieces, interviews, as well as a news ticker showing the latest breaking developments from all over the world.
