American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT)
The American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT) is a professional organization of technologists, operations personnel, business staff, educators and students in the confectionery industry. The association offers the National Candy Technologists Scholarship Program for students enrolled in accredited science and engineering programs. The AACT monitors new confectionery trends and keeps abreast of the state of the global industry. Regional chapters in California, Chicago, Milwaukee, New York, Philadelphia and the Southeast provide the opportunity for regional activities and face-to-face contact.
This link to Hoover's Online contains information on the Sugar & Confectionery segment of the Food Industry. Listed are companies which manufacture and refine raw sugar, syrup, cane, and beet sugar. Also included are manufacturers of cocoa products, chocolate, candy and chewing gum. The list includes three types of information types: At-A-Glance, Capsule, or Profile.
At-A-Glance leads to links and commentaries about the selected company of interest. It provides very brief information and related news. Capsule provides a more extensive summary of sugar & confectionery companies, an quick overview of financials, news and analysis links, and information regarding the company of interest's industry and SIC categorization. Both of these services though limited are free.

The Manufacturing Confectioner (MC)
The Manufacturing Confectioner produces three publications for the candy industry: The Manufacturing Confectioner is an international monthly journal covering the marketing and industrial technologies of the industry. It provides new coverage, statistics, sales and marketing, equipment, ingredients and services in the confectionery industry.
Candy Buyer's Directory is a comprehensive reference source published annually for the North American confectionery industry. It contains lists of manufacturers, sellers, importers, candy brokers, and speciality brokers.
McCutheon's two volume publication covers emulsifiers, detergents, and functional materials related to the industry's manufacturing process. An online version of this publication is available as of June 3, 2002.
The Manufacturing Confectioner also lists trade associations of the sweet goods industry, has a current calendar of events from 2002 through 2008, lists seminars, courses and workshops, and has several publications on cocoa and chocolate.
National Confectioners Association (NCA)
The National Confectioners Association (NCA) is one of the oldest trade associations in the world. The NCA's mission is to foster industry growth through the advancement and promotion of the confectionery industry. The organization represents the industry and its consumers before legislative bodies, serves as a source for market data, provides industry and consumer information, education and leadership in the industry. The NCA provides balanced information about confectionery products to the general public and publishes newsletters targeted for various audiences. Its biannual publication, Sweet Journal, and it's monthly online newsletter the Sweet Journal Online keep members informed of activities and changes within the industry.
The NCA does not maintain it's own website for the national organization. Instead the NCA provides two main website resources targeted at different audiences, the eCandy Marketplace and Candy USA, which provide coverage for the business and consumer side of the confectionery industry. The eCandy Marketplace facilitates communication between suppliers, distributors, manufacturers, retailers, and brokers. Members are can access coverage of the industry, keep up to date with daily news, and read about source products and information in the company Showcase.
Consumers can learn more about the confectionery industry at the Candy USA website. It presents a history of candy types, some basic statistics, recent news, quick blurbs about nutrition and health, a FAQ about chocolate, recipes, candy trivia, press releases and publications. The site contains links for the National Confectioners Association and the Chocolate Manufacturers Association. Both associations present a list of their members and their websites. Overall this is a good general launch point for information about the candy industry in the United States.

Canada's Confectionery and Chewing Gum Industry
This website is linked from the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) website and provides bilingual (English-French) information about the Canadian confectionery and chewing gum industry. Information is presented in a quick facts overview that touches on the size of the Canadian confectionery industry, exports, and an explanation of basic elements and percentage breakouts of the industry. A subsector profile provides an overview of the performance of the confectionery industry in Canada during the last decade. A chart breakdown of the industry though late 1988-1996 provides primary statistics.
Data Sweet is a European multilingual service based in Aachen, Germany, that lists companies for the confectionery, chocolate, and biscuits industry. Users can review the site in their choice of English, French, Dutch, or Spanish.
This site lists international job opportunities. Also presented are suppliers of raw materials, machines and lab equipment. The bookstore menu lists books and book reviews on the confectionery industry available through Amazon.Com. Data Sweet offers services such as company presentations, web page design, and technical translations. Data Sweet provides links to fairs, seminars, and publications and news of interest to the confectionery manufacturing community. Links on their web resources page list associations, companies, search engines, and information on patents.
FEDIMA
FEDIMA is the European Federation of the Intermediate Products Industries for
the Bakery and Confectionery Trades. It links together national trade
associations in these industries within Europe. The site provides information on
FEDIMA and its members, and includes a members-only area.
Bakery and Confectionery Portal
The Bakery & Confectionery Portal is an international directory for bakeries and pastries for Africa, America, Asia, Europe, Italy, and the Pacific Rim. Included are web resources to online guides & magazines, recipes, shopping online, and web marketing. Also featured are links to machineries used in the confectionery industry, education, job postings, links to producers and suppliers, and to supplies and equipment. The Top Stories link keeps the user abreast of some industry information. A highly useful feature is the FastFind keyword search engine.
User can choose to participate in a weekly poll, sign up via email for a subscription to free newsletters, peruse information on featured companies or follow the Tradenet forum (if they read Portugese).

This website of the Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionery Alliance (BCCCA) is a trade association for manufacturers in this sector of the United Kingdom food industry. It exists to facilitate communication between manufacturers of "Alliance products" and to represent their interests to government and the media. The site features facts and figures about the sector and information on training courses and conferences. Information packs and variously-priced publications are available to order.
Extensive listing of fee-based reports from MarketResearch.Com containing detailed analyses of competitors and global confectionery markets in sugar, chewing gum, and chocolate. The abstracts provide an overview of report contents. There are many international links to Canada, Australia, Europe, South America, and the Netherlands.
This website presents trends tables which have been prepared using statistics from the Annual Survey of Manufacturers published by the Census Bureau. The table links are organized by NAIS (North American Industry Classification System) categories among which are tables related to the confectionery industry. There are numerous links for the sugar, chocolate and non-chocolate confectionery industry.
The base year used is 1997. The value of shipments is expressed as current dollars, showing the value of the goods produced in a specified year, and constant dollars, reflecting the value of a given year's output in 1997 dollar values to allow a comparison over time. Annual data is presented for industry data by value of shipments, total employment, production workers, and capital expenditures. Product data is reflected as value of shipments in current and constant dollars. Trade data is shown as value of exports.
