Corporate libraries contain a wealth of information pertinent to the operation of many of today’s companies.  However, this resource often goes unnoticed.  By marketing the corporate library, usage may increase dramatically.  This saves the corporation the library time and money, and increases job security of the library staff. This web guide is intended for corporate librarians wishing to market their services.  It contains general information for the novice and more specific information for librarians who understand the basics of marketing.


BASICS OF MARKETING

  This resource includes general information and terms used in marketing.  By using this resource, the corporate librarian may begin to build an understanding of marketing and it’s importance.

LIBRARIES AND MARKETING

  Marketing Library Services is a journal specifically designed to allow librarians of all types to learn more about marketing their services to users.  Select features from each issue are present in full-text on the web page.  This resource is valuable because it focuses specifically on marketing libraries.
  This electronic resource includes links to articles and websites about marketing libraries and library services.
  This paper, presented at the 61st IFLA General Conference discusses the role of marketing in the library and information center.
  This website contains a significant amount of information about marketing libraries. Links to related resources are included.
  This resource presents an article about marketing libraries.  Additionally, it contains links to information related the subject.  Though not specifically targeted toward corporate libraries, the information included in this site can translate to the corporate realm.
  This website includes tips for librarians about marketing their libraries.  The general library marketing information included may prove valuable to corporate librarians wishing to make potential users aware of services.
  This is a very helpful tool that corporate librarians may use to create a marketing plan.  This site is a workbook that includes definitions of terms and instructions for creating a service awareness plan.  Please note that this site is part of LEXIS-NEXIS and will take several minutes to download.
  This web site includes links to information that librarians may use to understand the importance of marketing and the process of creating and implementing a marketing plan.
  This article, by Christie Koontz, was featured in the Marketing Library Services (MLS) journal in February 2002.  This article teaches librarians that libraries, like any business, produce a product.  The product, in this case information, must be marketed to the correct audience.


MARKETING THE CORPORATE LIBRARY

  In this article, Sarah Lelgarde Swart recounts the steps she took to market her corporate library at the Ford Motor Company.  The article discusses the measures that she found most effective at her library.
  This website, compiled by Rosalyn Donald, an Information Sepcialist at Information Access Co., includes information about marketing in the corporate library setting.
  This article, by Peggy Bass Bridges and Suzette Morgan, was featured in Marketing Library Services (MLS) in March of 2000.  The authors of this article found ways to creatively market their library, thereby increasing the usage of that library.
