Welcome. This page represents a collection of suggested links to finding information in, on, or about archives and history centers within the United States. The information is broken into three general types of facilities: State, Federal, and Special. The State facilities are all the governmental facilities that house materials of archival or historical nature. The Federal facilities include both the Presidential Libraries and Museums and the National Archives. The Special facilities are a smattering of topical collections designed to encourage interest in a variety of subjects.
The Alabama site is filled with a number of interesting options including family history and genealogy information and Alabama History Online. Alaska points toward a description of the archives and a staff directory. Arizona provides information concerning research by mail and has a local history information link. Arkansas puts the pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle.
California provides a search engine for the user's convenience. Colorado provides a look at the collections available in the archives and includes graphics. Connecticut provides a brief overview of the department and its available services. Delaware shows the new building in the works and gives plenty of links to archival information. Florida generously supplies two sites: the State Archives site and the Florida State Archives Photographic Collection site. A wealth of information is shared there.
The Georgia archives divides information into two categories: public service information and historical information. Hawaii is responsible for records of enduring value from the state and territorial governments, the Republic of Hawaii and the Hawaiian Kingdom. Idaho has no state archives web site at this time. Illinois links to several databases available online for searching historical information and provides information on collections in house.
Indiana Public Records are available from a number of sources and links are provided. Iowa has no state archives web site at this time. Kansas information includes such things as family and local history, maps, and a variety of subject-related links. Kentucky provides a dual site for both the State Library and the State Archives. Louisiana and Minnesota have no state archives web sites at this time. Maine allows the opportunity to search for information concerning exhibits and collections.
Maryland produces information about the state government and its records as well as special services that are available. Massachusetts has an opening page designed to direct the searcher to the appropriate informational site. Michigan begins its coverage of materials in 1797. Mississippi has a one-stop site covering the archives, library, several museums and historic sites, the state records center, and a historic preservation program. Missouri "shows me" a variety of links to many interesting pages of historical information. Montana and Nebraska have no state web sites at this time.
Nevada provides a clickable list of areas to search specific files. New Hampshire allows access to the archive's finding aids. New Jersey and New Mexico have no state archive web sites at this time. New York has links to the on-line catalogue and exhibits as well as a searchable database of a collection of film scripts. North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, and Oklahoma have no state archives web sites at this time. Oregon State Archives provides information on genealogical, historical, and legal topics and provides a wonderful Oregon State Library 50th Anniversary Exhibit.
Pennsylvania explains the recordkeeping system followed in the maintenance of public records. Genealogical Records and the Pennsylvania State Archives is a second site devoted to legal and vital records that are available for searching. Rhode Island has no state archives web site at this time. South Carolina explores the history of the state. South Dakota has no state archives web site at this time. Tennessee provides digital images of some of the collections as well as history and genealogy links.
Texas has set up a lobby to direct the searcher to a number of available collections and sources. Another of the sources is the Genealogy Collection Main Menu for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Utah gives access to the history of the archives, the personnel, and the services provided. Vermont has a listing of links to such information as collections and the historical campaign finance database.
Virginia provides a wealth of information concerning the materials and services available. Washington has no state archives web site at this time. West Virginia has created an easy-to-use format for their site. Links are provided for more information about the collections and the archives itself. Wisconsin links up to information about the materials available for use as well as other sites of interest for the state. Wyoming has no state archives web site at this time.

National Archives and Records
Administration
This site contains a wealth of information concerning
the history of the United State of America. Web exhibits, digital
photographs and documents, research assistance, publications and professional
services are just a few of the things available. An additional plus
is the "Digital Classroom" which assists teachers of all grades in using
primary sources in courses of study.
Black Archives of Mid-America allows the story of the African American to be told. Funded by the Missouri State Library, the database is searchable and photographs are an important feature.
Calumet Regional Archives is a sampling of what a regional archives can accomplish. The site includes visual materials and maps as well as a searchable keyword index of the manuscript and archives collection. Indiana University has done a good job of representing the history of the Calumet area of Indiana.
Douglass: Archives of American Public Address is a special archives designed to provide access to a variety of speeches. Alta Vista provides a search feature for the site. Northwestern University's School of Speech have kept this item very current.
Joint Archives of Holland is the result of a combination of three distinct groups: Hope College, Holland Historical Trust, and Western Theological Seminary. It is searchable and has a timeline feature included.
Joseph M. Bryan Archives is located at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and contains materials about the Bryan family history as well as Mr. Bryan's business papers. Mr. Bryan was a broadcasting pioneer.
Metropolitan Archives of Nashville and Davidson County provides links to local history information, archives information, and a searchable online catalog feature. This site is maintained by the Friends of Archives in Nashville and Davidson Counties of Tennessee.
Minnesota State Law Library is the key to legislative information for the entire state. Also included are a number of links to various information concerning the law in Minnesota and in the federal courts.
National First Ladies' Library is unique in that it contains information concerning the private and public lives of the First Ladies of the United States. The Stark State College of Technology in Ohio produced this page.
New Netherland Project is a scholarly resource sponsored by the New York State Library. The mission of this project is to create a database of all Dutch documents within the state's holdings and transcribe, translate, and publish them.
Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture is a site that is based in the Salisbury State University in Maryland. Information about the Delmarva Peninsula and the collection of the Center are the primary links. This site was originally designed to aid the students of SSU in using and learning about primary sources.
Tulane University Special Collections in New Orleans, Louisiana, provides a number of links to information about archival holdings, publications, and special events in the Special Collections.

searcher. Ann Arbor's University of Michigan is the site of this
site. A search engine is also available.
