The purpose of this web page is to assist the lay person in finding diabetes-related information on the Internet. This page can be used as a starting point to finding government-owned or government-sponsored sites that contain information and/or offer services related to the prevention, care, or treatment of diabetes.

  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Diabetes Public Health Resource --- The mission of CDC's Division of Diabetes Translation is to eliminate the preventable burden of diabetes through leadership, research, programs, and policies that translate science into practice. One of their programs is Diabetes Today, a training program that looks at diabetes from a public health perspective.

  Office of Minority Health: Updates on CDC's Division of Diabetes Translation Projects

  Indian Health Service (IHS) National Diabetes Program --- The mission of this program is to develop, document, and sustain a public health effort to prevent and control diabetes in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Diabetes is epidemic in Native Americans. This site also includes a U.S. map that shows where each of the IHS national diabetes centers is located.

  Medicare Information Related to Diabetes --- Includes publications and posters in English and Spanish.

  healthfinder® --- The Diabetes Prevention and Self-Care section of "Smart Choices" which is a free guide to health information sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

  The National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) is a joint initiative of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Two complementary NDEP Web sites exist. One is managed by NIH (ndep.nih.gov) and the other by CDC (www.cdc.gov/diabetes/projects/ndeps.htm).

  National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Disease (NIDDK) --- NIDDK supports basic and clinical research through investigator-initiated grants, program project and center grants, and career development and training awards. The Institute also supports research and development projects and large-scale clinical trials through contracts.

  Veterans Health Administration Diabetes Program --- Includes several pamphlets and guides in MS Word format.

  Endocrinology and Diabetes Clinic of the Nashville, Tennessee, VA Medical Center --- Provides comprehensive care and consultations for patients with diabetes mellitus and diseases of the endocrine glands. The Clinic utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to provide patients with the knowledge, equipment, skills, and professional support to be full partners in the management of their medical conditions.

  The U.S. Congressional Diabetes Caucus --- The mission of the Caucus is to increase the awareness of diabetes in Congress and to promote greater research into diabetes and diabetes-related complications.

  MEDLINEplus Health Information--Diabetes --- This is the diabetes area of MEDLINEplus, a National Library of Medicine service sponsored by NIH.

  ClinicalTrials.gov --- An NIH-sponsored site, developed by the National Library of Medicine, that lists medical studies currently being conducted and still recruiting participants and/or studies that are no longer recruiting. To find diabetes-related clinical trials listed at this site, click here.

  CDC's State-Level Diabetes Control Programs --- CDC maintains an interactive map and textual list of all states to facilitate getting contact information about each state's Diabetes Control Program. If the state has a web site for its DCP, there is a link to it at the bottom of its informational page. It appears that neither West Virginia nor South Carolina has its DCP online yet.
