Photographs of Relocation of Residents from Camp Croft Area

"When the United States War Department decided to build Camp Croft, it had to relocate hundreds of families from the area.  The Farm Security Administration built the families new pre-fabricated houses in Pacolet.  In spite of the poverty and poor housing conditions in which most of the families lived, many were reluctant to give up their homes or the land they had tilled as sharcroppers or tenant farmers.  As part of its ongoing effort to record the history of the United States during its periods of crisis (the Great Depression and World War II), the Farm Security Administration sent one of its photographers, Jack Delano, to Spartanburg to photograph the resettlement."
