This site is aimed at providing information to members of the general public who wish to travel, both domestically and abroad. Links also offer information regarding travel and transportation issues such as safety and legal requirements. While this site covers a wide range of areas, it is not complete. Many of the sites listed here contain links to other sites which should be followed for further information.
U.S. Government Agencies:
Department of State Consular Affairs -this site is run by the U.S. State Department and offers links which offer a wide variety of information to assist international travelers
Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service - this site contains travelers tips which include acceptable agricultural products and tells you about other products that require permits or are prohibited when leaving and entering the United States.
U.S. Customs Service - contains information and FAQ pages regarding legal issues for traveling in and out of the US
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - CDC Travel Information - contains reference material for international travelers as well as a graphical travel map
Travel Warnings and Consular Information Sheets - (from the U.S. State Department) Travel Warnings
are issued when the State Department decides, based on all
relevant
information, to recommend that Americans avoid travel to a
certain country. Consular Information Sheets are available for
every country of the world. They include such information as
location of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in the subject country,
unusual immigration practices, health conditions, minor political
disturbances, unusual currency and entry regulations, crime and
security information, and drug penalties.
Policy Works Travel and Transportation Services - The General Services Administration, Office of Government-wide Policy, Office of Transportation and Personal Property, Travel and Transportation Management Policy Division, establishes the maximum CONUS per diem rates for our Federal traveler customers. These rates are reviewed annually. The current maximum CONUS rates are provided.
National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) -this is the homepage for Amtrak and includes news from within the agency as well as schedule, reservation, and travel planner links.
Trakrouter - Amtrak's Online Scheduler - Amtrak's online scheduler, makes it quick and easy to plan a trip between any 2 Amtrak cities, with up to 2 connections. You can view time and day of departure, total travel time, and station and train services.
National Transportation Safety Board - National Transportation Safety Board is an independent Federal agency charged by Congress with investigating every civil aviation accident in the United States and significant accidents in the other modes of transportation -- railroad, highway, marine and pipeline -- and issuing safety recommendations aimed at preventing future accidents. This site offers information of accidents, safety statistics, and related publications.
Federal Highway Administration - this site offers information on the organization of this agency, program areas, publications and statistics, and reports on line.
Federal Railroad Administration - The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) was created in 1966 to promote and enforce safety throughout the U.S. railroad system. The FRA remains steadfast in its concern for and commitment to ever safer rail transportation for passengers, railroad employees, and the public.
Federal Transit Administration - this federal agency oversees public transit systems throughout the United States. Links contain information on a variety of areas including access to transit, geographic information systems, transit technology, and a national transit database.
U.S. Department of Transportation - offers information on a variety of travel and transportation issues, including news and statistics, legislation and regulation, and a national transportation library.

Country Studies / Area Handbooks -A continuing series of books prepared by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the Department of the Army. This online series presently contains studies of 85 countries.

Foreign Entry Requirements - This listing is for U.S. citizens traveling on tourism or business and includes general information on passport, visa, and immunization requirements for international travel.
International Legal Assistance - this site can be searched by country or by topic. Topics include: dual nationality, marriage abroad, obtaining a foreign attorney, and enforcement of judgments, among others.
Passport Services - this site includes downloadable passport applications, lists of where to go to obtain a passport, as well as links to other sources of vital records.
Visa Services -
includes information on frequently asked questions about visas,
as well as information regarding visitor and student visas,
immigrant visas, employment visas, and embassy office
information.

World:
To visit the web sites for U.S. embassies or consulates around the world, click on the appropriate link for the country you would like to visit. These web sites are maintained separately and contain different types of information in each. Generally, the U.S. Embassy homepages include information on country-specific passport, visa, and entry information, assistance available to American citizens abroad, and general services provided by each embassy.
