SERIES TITLE: Yearbook of Agriculture

ORIGINATING AGENCY/DEPT.: Department of Agriculture

FREQUENCY: Annual

YEARS PUBLISHED: 1894-1993

DESCRIPTION: Provides authoritative and comprehensive treatment

of vital agricultural concerns. Continues what

began as crops and soil review, weather, and

agricultural statistics formerly included in the

annual report of the Commissioner of Patents.

              After the Department of Agriculture's

establishment in 1862, the Secretary of Agriculture

was required by law to submit this report to the

President annually. After 1865, it became

mandatory to submit this report to Congress as

well. The Secretary's report was published with

other articles and statistical compilations in one

volume until 1936. Afterwards, the Secretary's

report became published by itself; the statistics

were also published separately as Agricultural

Statistics. The Yearbook of Agriculture became a

compilation of articles on specific agricultural

issues. In 1938, it settled into its present format

of following a different theme each year.

              Includes photographs, charts, and extensive

bibliographies, as well as an index in each volume.

USES: Designed for the farmer, but easy for the general public to

comprehend. A useful and inexpensive reference aid for

anyone wishing to know more about agricultural issues.

SERIES TITLE: Agriculture Information Bulletin

ORIGINATING AGENCY/DEPT.: Department of Agriculture

FREQUENCY: Irregular

YEARS PUBLISHED: 1949-

DESCRIPTION: Each issue has a unique title and is devoted to one

specific agriculture topic. These topics range in

scope from Financial Performance of Specialized Hog

Farms, 1987 to Characteristics and Production Costs

             evenly distributed between production, economic

             history, needs, and concerns.

Though the information in these bulletins is highly

specialized, they are written in a nontechnical

style that the general public should not find very

             difficult.

searching for thorough discussion of a particular farming

issue. However, this series could be useful to a student

      doing specialized agricultural research.

SERIES TITLE: Environmental Protection Agency Journal

ORIGINATING AGENCY/DEPT.: Environmental Protection Agency/ Office
of Communications and Public Affairs

FREQUENCY: Quarterly

YEARS PUBLISHED: 1975-

DESCRIPTION: Contains articles on current environmental issues

throughout the world. Articles typically discuss a

primary ecological problem in a country, its

national and international impacts, and the position

the country's government has taken on the issue.

Also, part of each issue is devoted to political and

regulatory aspects of the EPA. For example, new

             appointments and professional seminars and

conferences are announced regularly. There is a

slant toward the interaction between economics and

environmental issues. Many articles focus on Third

             World nations.

USES: Useful to the environmentalist, and to students doing

reports on the ecological issues of foreign countries or
