DESCRIPTION: One series of separate State reports has been issued

for each Congress since 1971. These reports list

population and housing data in addition to recent

election statistics for each Congress. The

exceptions to this rule are the five single district

states: Alaska, Delaware, Nevada, Vermont, and

Wyoming, which are covered in a single report.

Population figures show the number of persons in

each state and in each Congressional district within

the state, broken down into several major categories

             which include race, residence, broad age groups;

population per square mile; and percent change in

             population.

Housing data consists of total number of housing

units by state and district; number of units lacking

complete plumbing, and the number and value or

monthly rent of owner-and-renter-occupied units and

units with more than one person per room.

Election data shows the vote casts on Congressional

and Presidential elections by the major parties.

Explanatory text and maps of Congressional

districts, counties, and some cities is included.

and analyses in keeping with the responsibility of the
National Institute of Standards and technology as
  the nation's measurement science laboratory.
Included are reports on instrumentation and
mathematical models of phenomena. In addition,
there are papers on calibration techniques, quality
assurance programs, and critical data. Special
issues are devoted to invited papers on a
  particular area of measurement science.

From 1959- 1966, this series was issued in four
separate sections. From 1966-1977, it was issued in
three sections. In 1977, sections A and B were
consolidated to form one section. Section D, Radio
Science, remains separate and has been published by
  the Environmental Science Services Administration
  since 1966.

  Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

  FREQUENCY: Irregular

  YEARS PUBLISHED: 1978-

DESCRIPTION: Each issue focuses on a recent major disaster
and analyzes the National Weather Service's procedures
for forecasting and warning of natural disasters
such as tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and
earthquakes. Provides a brief history of the
disaster and follows up with analyses of: the
warning systems provided; the preparedness and
responses to the disaster; the communications to and
through the media; performance statistics, and
recommendations for improvement in a similar
scenario. Over the years, the pages have become glossier
and have come to include full-page color photos and
  graphics.

USES: State and local emergency management personnel, media
personnel, and public service groups can use this
information to determine potential disaster problems, to
develop contingency plans, to improve responses to
disasters, and to design more effective forecasting and
  warning procedures.
